I would like to introduce a series of blog post called GIS on the Cheap. These are excerpt of a presentation that I have given a few times in the National Alliance for Public Safety GIS Fire Users Group. It is common for fire departments to become intimidated of GIS or may be overwhelmed about the price and complexity of the software. This series will put GIS in a “Firefighters Perspective”. The objectives of this series includes
- What to do to get started if no GIS exists
- How do I create maps cheaply!
- How can I fund this
- What training is out there
The thing to remember is that GIS is a tool.
