Standpipe Identification

One challenges that firefighter sometimes face is identifying which fire department connection is available.  Most often In many cases fire department connections may be buried in bushes, mislabeled, or in disrepair.  Another challenge may also telling apart which FDC is a standpipe connection or sprinkler connection.  There are instances where the brass is even mislabeled.

One great way of identifying the difference between sprinkler and standpipe connections is to color code them.  In this case

Standpipe connection is yellow

Sprinkler connection is red

A good tips as well is to tape the barrel with Scotchlite

Preplan Symbols

With the color coding the preplan symbols can also be color coded

Standpipe Connection

Sprinkler Connection
